The Funiki SPLASH module is a way to add a visual element to your Eurorack system. After using and watching a lot of Eurorack synth systems, especially ones being used for a live performance, it became clear that there was something missing. Sure Eurorack systems are fantastic for creating sounds and music; they are everywhere! But we found ourselves looking at a person twisting knobs and pushing buttons as the only visual element of a performance. With all the modules and patch cables and signals going here and there, we thought wouldn’t it be nice to actually see what all those signals were doing.
The Funiki SPLASH module lets you tap into any voltage signal, like a Control Voltage, or any other analog voltage from -10 to +10 volts, and it will display that signal onto a large set of LEDs arranged like a huge volt meter. Add in some colors and patterns, and you have a complete analog visual display, tied in perfectly with any Eurorack synthesizer signal. The module also has a Trigger input which can be used to initiate different functions, like a pattern or action change, or even activate a build-in sample-n-hold function on the Analog input.
The Funiki SPLASH module can directly drive up to 3 LED strips, just by pluggingthem into the module outputs. It uses a standard 4-pin connector which is commonly found on most color LED strips. These strips are commonly found in 2 meter and 5 meter lengths, and we also have these available for sale. The module is also compatible with signal splitters and amplifiers, so you can locate the LED strips far away from the controller.
Eurorack systems do not have enough power to directly drive LED strips, therefore the Funiki SPLASH module has a 12-volt power supply input which drives the LED strips. Each strip takes about 30 watts of power, therefore driving a 3 LED strip setup will require a 12v 100watt power supply at the DC input.
The LED strips that can be driven with the Funiki SPLASH module are standard LED color strips with a 12 volt power requirement. The strips use the WS2815 LED and there are several manufacturers of LED strips that are fully compatible. Just make sure the LED strips use the WS2815 LED on them and that they are compatible with 12 volt systems. Other type of LEDs are not guaranteed to work and could be damaged.
The Funiki SPLASH module is a single 16HP Eurorack module which works with any Eurorack system that supplies the standard +/-12 volts. The 64 LED color LED patterns are programmed into an externally accessible EEPROM chip, which allows for customization by modifying the memory contents. There is also a self-resetting overload circuit on the module which prevents overheating from extreme power draw through the LED strips.
